Guidelines for Moving Expenses
- These guidelines apply to full-time faculty, administrative directors, administrative officers, and others approved by the appropriate vice president.
- Moving expenses for distances under 35 miles will not be reimbursed by the University.
- The amount determined by the University as appropriate for reimbursement of moving expenses will be determined by the following formula:
Initial Contract Salary x .06 x Distance Multiplier = Relocation Allowance

If the newly hired employee wishes to make the case that this amount is not appropriate in a particular case, this must be done prior to incurring the expenses and permission must be given in writing by the appropriate vice president in order to guarantee reimbursement.
- If more than one family member is moving to new employment in the Scranton area, Marywood University will pay only a portion of the moving expenses. Documentation of the amount agreed upon by each employer must not exceed the total documented cost of the move.
- Appropriate documentation (receipts) will be required before any claim can be made against the allowance.
- We encourage you to get, at least, two bids from moving companies. Expect that they will not include the total cost and plan accordingly. Make clear to the company how far beyond the estimate it may go without your additional authorization.
- The type of covered expenses include:
- moving household furnishings;
- moving titled vehicles;
- visits for home-buying purposes;
- airline tickets associated with the move;
- gasoline, tolls, meals associated with the relocation.
- The right to reimbursement of relocation expenses will be reserved for two years beyond the initial contract to accommodate delays. However, reimbursement allowances will be based on initial contract salary.
