The Human Performance Laboratory

The Human Performance Laboratory (HPL) provides three primary services: research, education, and community service:

Research

As a center for research, the HPL enables collaboration among Marywood University academic departments, as well as with other academic, government, and non-profit institutions. HPL research is multidisciplinary and collaborative, focusing on human performance, exercise & asthma, air quality, and nutrition.

Education

The HPL is designed to enhance the learning experiences of students in health related fields and is designed to provide the resources and equipment necessary for research related to exercise, health, and wellness. Students in the Nutrition and Dietetics, Athletic Training, Physician Assistant, Nursing, and other programs have the opportunity to gain "hands on" experience in the lab during their educational training at Marywood University. The lab will be utilized for interdisciplinary education and will provide learning through laboratory experiences and didactic coursework. In addition to the capability of the lab to enhance classroom education, the HPL also offers student research opportunities.

Service

The HPL lab will provide services in sport science to Marywood University teams, local municipalities, regional and Olympic athletes. This will include testing and monitoring of athletes as well as training plan development.

As part of the O'Neill Center for Healthy Families, the Human Performance Laboratory is also committed to providing service to the community by providing programs for the Northeast Pennsylvania Women's Health Alliance.
