Programs of Study

Degree-seeking students are required to complete a core curriculum which includes major issues in the field and develops broad teacher competencies in a variety of areas. The following course sequence is suggested, but the individual's academic preparation and professional experiences may permit variations.

Master of Science in Special Education/
Teaching the Mildly Impaired

II. Professional Concentration Options

9 credits required
Because degree-seeking students come to Marywood with a broad range of educational and professional experiences, they are given considerable flexibility in planning their programs of study. This may not be an option for those students seeking initial or advanced certification along with the degree.
The unusual diversity of programs offered by the graduate faculty provides students with the opportunity of incorporating into the M.S. in Special Education a nine credit professional concentration within one of the following graduate areas:

A. Counseling/Psychology
B. Early Childhood Education
C. Elementary Education
D. Instructional Technology
E. Reading Education
F. School Leadership

The student must arrange a planning meeting with the chairperson in the chosen area immediately following admission into the Department of Special Education.
