Admissions
All students pursuing a graduate program in Special Education must complete a Graduate School of Arts and Sciences application. Degree-seeking students must submit their recent scores on the Miller Analogies Test as part of the application process. All students seeking a certification must meet the following requirements:
Teacher/Supervisor Certificate Programs
Initial Certification Program
Applicants must meet the general admissions requirements of the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences in addition to the PRAXIS I test, minimum Baccalaureate Q.P.A of 2.75 (until 9/1/02) or 3.00 (after 9/1/02), and must also have had two courses in each math and English.
Advanced Certification Program
Applicants must meet the general admissions
requirements of the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences in addition
to the
Miller's Analogies Test and a minimum Baccalaureate Q.P.A.
of 2.75 (until 9/1/02) or 3.00 (after 9/1/02).
*ICP = A program at the baccalaureate or post-baccalaureate
level that prepares candidates for their first certification
as professional educators.
**ACP = A program at the post-baccalaureate level for
those who already have completed an initial preparation program.
Transfer students are reminded that no more than six
hours of credit will be applied to a Special Education master's
degree, and returning students are cautioned that "age
of credits" will be considered when planning a formal
program of studies.
Post-baccalaureate Teacher Certificate
Students seeking initial or advanced
certification to teach in the field of special education must first apply
for graduate
school admission. One-half of a student's coursework
must be taken at Marywood in order to receive a recommendation
for the certificate. The PRAXIS Testing Program, as
well as the completion of a professional portfolio is required for
initial and advanced certification seekers.
