At Marywood, you'll find a wealth of academic opportunities, the chance to build on the knowledge you've already gained elsewhere -- and a faculty dedicated to helping you achieve your goals.

Students transfer to Marywood for a variety of reasons: to pursue studies in a discipline not offered at their former college, to be closer to home, to resume an education started elsewhere but interrupted by family or other commitments, and many others. What they share is a renewed commitment to reach their goals -- and what they discover at Marywood is a faculty and curriculum ready to help them do just that.

Whatever your reasons for considering a transfer to Marywood University, your inquiry is welcome. You'll find here the basics you need to get started on the road to Marywood: information about areas of study, transfer of credits, financial aid, the application procedure, academic advising and facilities. You can request information be sent to you such as Marywood's undergraduate viewbook and catalog, and other materials such as department descriptions which will provide additional information. Also a campus visit, which can include meetings with admissions and financial aid officers and the chance to talk with faculty and students, is one of the best ways to see how you would fit into the lively academic community that is Marywood. Just let us know how we can help you explore!

Academic Advising and Academic Opportunities

One of the greatest benefits of studying at Marywood is the opportunity to work closely with the faculty. You'll find they take a sincere interest in your progress and are dedicated to helping you make the most of your time at the University. You'll be assigned a faculty advisor from the beginning of your studies at Marywood, most likely a full-time faculty member in your major department. Your academic advisor will help you plan a program that meets your needs and goals as well as university and departmental requirements. Each semester, your advisor will work with you to develop a schedule of courses prior to registration for the following semester. Academic advisors also play an important role in providing direction, support and referrals for specialized assistance, if necessary. Ultimately, though, it will be your responsibility to meet all the requirements of your major and general requirements, which include 64 credits of the liberal arts component of the undergraduate curriculum.

You'll find plenty of opportunities to individualize your program at Marywood, including the honors program, independent study, practicums, internships, study abroad -- and even double majors, ad hoc majors, or major-minor programs if your time at Marywood allows.

Facilities and Technology

Whatever your major, you'll benefit from Marywood's commitment to provide all students with state-of-the-art technology. You'll find computer facilities with the latest word processing and statistical software in the Learning Resources Center (LRC); these labs are available to all regularly enrolled undergraduates. The library, also located in the LRC, has holdings of more than 216,191 volumes, 338,191 microforms, 43,342 media items, and 965 current periodicals. The library also participates in a national and international interlibrary loan network.

How to Apply

You're welcome to apply to Marywood for Fall, Spring, or Summer Session. You are recommended to apply no later than three weeks before classes begin. You'll need to submit the following items to the Office of Admissions in order to complete an application for admission:

  • an application form with the appropriate fee
  • an official high school transcript
  • an official transcript of all college course work in which you have enrolled
  • one letter of recommendation (additional letters are welcome)
  • an official score report from the General Education Development Test (GED), if applicable
  • an official score report of the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) if your native language is not English
Please be aware that some departments (such as art and music) have special entrance requirements in addition to the general University admission requirements; please contact the appropriate department directly.

Transfer of Credit

Students may receive credit for courses successfully completed at another accredited college with a minimum of "C" grade or better. Technical or career-oriented courses normally do not satisfy requirements for baccalaureate degree programs at Marywood. Generally, courses completed more than twenty years prior to enrollment may not be applied to a baccalaureate degree at Marywood. Courses accepted for transfer become part of the student's official academic record. However, grades are not transferred and are not included in the calculation of the grade point average at Marywood.

Transfer students must earn a minimum of 60 credits at Marywood, including at least one-half of the credits for a major, in order to receive a baccalaureate degree. General liberal arts and major program degree requirements can be found in the undergraduate catalog.

Upon acceptance, students are encouraged to obtain an official evaluation of transfer credits. Transfer students should also meet with the appropriate department chairperson or a delegated academic advisor to obtain a full explanation of remaining degree requirements.
