Students wishing to make the field of physical activity their career choice may elect to major in Health and Physical Education. Students in the Department of Health and Physical Education can choose from one of three majors: Athletic Training, Teacher Education, and Physical Activity. All three majors lead to a B.S. degree in Health and Physical Education.

This program, which leads to the degree of Bachelor of
Science in Health and Physical Education, requires each
student to successfully complete the following courses, in
addition to the core curriculum component of the
undergraduate curriculum. Please note that completion of
state teaching certification competencies is not required
for graduation in Health and Physical Education, unless the
Teacher Education major is chosen.
Athletic Training majors must attain a minimum QPA of 2.50 to be admitted into the program. Students must have an overall QPA of 2.50 to graduate in this major. Teacher Education majors and dual Athletic Training/Teacher Education majors must attain a minimum QPA of 3.00 to be admitted into the program and must maintain the 3.00 to graduate in this major. Physical Activity majors must attain a minimum QPA of 2.00 to be admitted and to graduate in this major. They must also maintain a minimum QPA of 2.33 in the major program to graduate. Students who do not meet these requirements will not be admitted into the program nor allowed to take upper level major courses.
Students must make formal application to the department. Teacher Education and physical activity students apply during their sophomore year. Athletic training students apply during their second semester of the first year. Students must be admitted to the department before they will be allowed to enroll in PED 424.
Admission into the Athletic Training Education Program (ATEP) is competitive. Students are selected from an applicant pool of those who have achieved the minimal qualification as outlined in the ATEP Application for Admission. Achievement of these minimum qualifications does not ensure admission into the ATEP.
